| Hail to King, and a world music show
DIFFERENT DRUMS: The OD TAPO IMI presents a family performance, "Drums & Tropical Pop," showcasing "vacation music" at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arcada Theatre in west suburban St. Charles. The band's name is an acronym that stands for "oil drums that are pounded out into musical instruments." The kids -- and grownups, too -- will be fascinated by the music made on the 55-gallon petroleum oil drums accompanied by four-part vocal harmonies. And what is meant by vacation music? Songs by Harry Belafonte, Jimmy Buffett and Sheryl Crow. Tickets are $15 to $35. The venue is at 105 E. Main. For tickets or more information, call (630) 587-8400; TheArcada.com. .
Armani To Design Holmes' Wedding Gown
Famed fashion designer Giorgio Armani will design Katie Holmes' dress for her upcoming wedding to Tom Cruise. Although no official wedding date has been announced, media reports have suggested the couple will marry sometime next month. Rod Manley, Director of Public Relations and Media Planning for Armani, tells Us Weekly, "I can confirm that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have asked Giorgio Armani to design their official wedding attire for their upcoming marriage." The spokesman added that an Armani photographer will be taking pictures at the wedding, along with photographers hired by Cruise. Fashion bible Women's Wear Daily claims Armani has designed five different outfits for Holmes for various events taking place on the wedding weekend.
Boxford: Man denies mistreating ponies, geese
BOXFORD — A local man, arraigned yesterday on 15 counts of animal cruelty, is forbidden from keeping any pets except for some tropical fish. Frederick Delisio, 52, of 695 Main St. was arraigned in Haverhill District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of withholding food and water from miniature ponies and domestic geese he owned. "You'll see it's a big misconception," Delisio told Judge Stephen Abany. Delisio was arrested Saturday after police and officers from the Animal Rescue League seized three miniature ponies and three geese from his barn — the floors of which court records described as covered inches deep in excrement. Christopher Smalley, communications director for Animal Rescue League of Boston, said Delisio's animals are under veterinarian care at an undisclosed location.
Pick ‘n’ roll: Thursday’s best NBA bets
These teams are polar opposites. The Heat have dropped nine straight contests and are 23.5 games off the pace at the bottom of the NBA Southeast, while Houston has won nine straight and is just four games back in the NBA Southwest. There is also major disparity between how each team is doing against the spread. Miami has covered just twice on its current losing streak, while the Rockets have won against the spread in six of their last seven. Houston has won and covered in two of its last three meetings against Miami and that trend is likely to continue when they meet on Thursday night. Pick: Miami San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves (+8, 179) The Spurs won six of nine games on a difficult road trip ahead of the All-Star break, so Thursday's road game in Minnesota won't be too daunting for them.
Anniversary poses tough travel questions
Denver. Kansas City. Chicago. Las Vegas. Minneapolis. Thad and I have been together as a couple more than half of our natural lives 18 years - and we can count on one hand the out-of-state destinations to which weve traveled. I wish we were world travelers, but we just arent. Some people find fulfillment in traveling to far-off places, but we love being at home. Thats why Ive dragged my feet a bit when it comes to planning a 10 year anniversary trip a year late. We had originally planned to fly west to San Francisco or east to New York to celebrate a decade of wedded bliss, but parenthood took precedence. Brenner was just 3-and-a-half-months-old when we celebrated our 10th anniversary last September. At the time, we both agreed that a trip to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and the Albertville Outlet Malls in Minnesota was about as far away as we wanted to be from our kids.
